After a brief picture stop, proceed to the Walled City of Intramuros to visit the remnants of Spain’s conquistadores. Travel through the cobbled streets to San Agustin Church, the country’s oldest stone church, and view its wide collection of ecclesiastical icons, vestments and other religious articles. Across it is Casa Manila, a reproduction of a 19th century house equipped with oriental and European décor, as well as Philippine antique furniture. Then proceed to Fort Santiago, Manila’s main line of defense against invaders from the sea. It is a stone fort guarding the entrance to the city from Manila Bay. It has been the site of many tragic moments in Philippine history. From Fort Santiago, drive on to Manila’s central district, Quiapo, often referred to as the heart of Manila with its market, pilgrimage church of the Black Nazarene, jeepney terminals and bazaars. Then, proceed to the Chinese cemetery, the only one of its kind in the world, where the mausoleums are as big and as elaborate as houses and where the fusion of eastern and Christian religions are very much in evidence. End the tour with a short sightseeing tour of the bustling financial and commercial district of Makati City. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3:    Manila (B)

After breakfast, enjoy a 2 hour leisurely drive to the city of Tagaytay, located on a ridge, 2250 feet above sea level. Admire the magnificent views offered of Taal Volcano, a small volcano whose crater houses another volcano, and the quiet surroundings of Taal Lake. The majestic view can be enjoyed from a vantage point along the ridge. After enjoying native refreshment, visit the world’s famous Bamboo Organ of Las Pinas Church and the Jeepney Factory. Returning to Manila in the late afternoon and rest of evening at leisure.

Day 4:     Manila – Cebu (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cebu. Arrive in Cebu and transfer to your resort. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5:      Cebu – Bohol – Cebu (B/L)

Morning transfer to Cebu Port for ferry to the Island of Bohol. This day excursion will introduce you to the wonders of Bohol. First stop is the Philippine Tarsier Foundation in the town of Corella, which serves as a refuge for the smallest primate in the world, the tarsier. Observe these rare, nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat and be amazed by their agility as they move about, leaping from one tree to the other, and swivel their heads nearly 360 degrees. Then proceed to Baclayon, make a short stop at the historical Blood Compact site, where Spain’s Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, a native chieftain, sealed their friendship with a symbolic drink. In Baclayon, visit a centuries-old stone church that houses a museum containing a collection of religious art, ecclesiastical vestments, as well as librettos of church music inscribed in Latin on animal skins. Proceed with the tour, passing by Bilar man-made forest, a thick undergrowth of towering mahogany trees grown on the fringes of the highway leading to the Chocolate Hills, the country’s geological wonder. From a distance, these hills look like huge candy drops that change in color with the season, and are aptly named ‘chocolate’ when the hill grasses turn deep brown in summer. Hike up to the viewpoint for a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area before moving on to Loboc River where a cruise downstream on a floating restaurant is made more enjoyable with a delectable lunch served on board. Return to the hotel by late afternoon.

Day 6:     Cebu (B)

Today you will tour Cebu City. Visit such sights Fort Pedro, the Cross of Magellan, which was the site of the first mass celebration in 1521, and Santo Nino Church which houses the image of the Holy Child Jesus venerated by the Cebuanos as their Patron Saint. Then drive along the Avenue of Flags and up to Beverly Hills, a scenic subdivision to enjoy views of the entire city, finally visit the local Taoist Temple before return to your hotel.
